22 years of marriage

We went to the rose gardens in Portland but they haven't bloomed yet due to all the rain....it was a nice hike though.....

Entertaining Olivia

Cousin Olivia is here from her Great Grandma's 80th birthday party, but her parents couldn't make it...she spent the day with us and Amelia entertained her for 5 hours~  she was such a big help...getting the pool out and setting it up on the porch (I had just put some seed on the lawn) was the most fun for them...seeing how Olivia dressed herself was the most fun for me!!

A Walk in the Rain

Last week was rainy and the girls and I ventured out in a light shower. We were walking along one of the main roads near our house, and for the first time in my life, a car drove past me through a puddle, and I was instantly soaked. We had a good laugh, & I was reminded of something I read recently--I can't remember where. It was an article giving tips on how to choose a spouse. One of the suggestions was to take note of how the prospective spouse responds to things like surprises, practical jokes, instant changes of plan, and sudden, unexpected inconveniences. Laughter was a good sign--so I was glad to find myself laughing at my sudden soaking. :)

Family Olympics Opening Day Parade

Evelyn's school is a brand new public charter school (did you see "Waiting for Superman?") and they do all sorts of awesome stuff. Tomorrow is their first annual "Family Olympics" and today they kicked it off with an afternoon parade around two whole city blocks. Each grade created a Tunbridge School banner and chanted or sang throughout the parade. I have no idea why, but I got choked up. It was really sweet.

I watched my 2 year old niece for 5 hours today......I'm tired!

Pie for breakfast!

One of my favorite pies is strawberry rhubarb--so during that incredibly small window of time when rhubarb is in season, I buy it up and make pies!

Fire pit

I bought a fire pit and have had 2 hotdog/smore parties so far.....it was a great investment and makes for some cheap entertainment.It's the best of both worlds friends and a campfire but being able to sleep in my own bed :)

The Running of the Brides

There are a few things that often happen when visiting my parents, and sometimes they happen simultaneously:
1. Playing "bride" using my mom's extensive collection of thrift store and yard sale dresses, veils, and silk bouquets.
2. Running at hyper speed in a circle through the living room, kitchen, and breakfast room while my mom bangs out "ROll Out the Barrel" on the piano.

Talk about fun--look! You can't even see Evelyn's feet! And Amelia is behind her, entirely obscured, wearing a pink taffeta dress & a headband with a lace curtain attached to it.

Finding Joy

Back from a busy weekend...somewhere along the lines these past few years I got into a habit of grumbling and not having fun. I used to be so much fun! Look at my Evelyn--just grabbing all the thrill to be had on a playground. Would you pray for me, friends, that I would look outside all the temporal, silly, tedious stuff and just have FUN?
